South Molton Colts hosted local rivals Torrington for their first game of the season.
Even with injuries and players missing, Molton could field the full 15 and and still have 4 subs to choose from - testament to the number of first and second year colts still wanting to play - excellent news for the club.
Right from the kick-off Molton new that this was going to be a stern test for their youngsters - and after 5 minutes inside centre Josh Glenister was blood binned with a gash by right eye - the result of accidental contact with one of his own players.
With 20 minutes gone and still no score, Torrington pressure finally paid of and went in for their first try which was duly converted. This was closely followed by their second which was not converted.
Molton still kept trying to penetrate the Torrington defence but with little effect - but were rewarded with a penalty 40 m out wide which fullback George Bulman slotted over to give a half time score 12 - 3 to Torrington.
The second half was slightly better from South Molton although they shipped another 17 points giving a full time score of 29 - 3. Too many silly errors made and not enough possession cost Molton dearly - but with such a young side they can only get better the more they play and with that will come confidence.
